Building Permits

Non-structural and structural building applications are reviewed by the Building Department.
Applications that require a variance will go before our own Zoning Board.
The time frame for zoning board review is approximately one month after denial of your building application.
All new construction or alterations, which are undertaken in the Village of Atlantic Beach, will require a building permit (painting and wall covering are the only items which do not require a permit). This includes not only structural construction, but also such things as window and door replacements (same size), roofing, fencing, wood decking below 8 1/4 ”, sidewalks, curbs, aprons, curb cuts – must be installed or replaced per Village specifications.
PODS
Enclosed storage containers or PODs require a permit before being placed on your
property. Call the Building Department at (516) 371-4600 for additional information.
Dumpsters
A permit is required for a dumpster—whether placed on street or in driveway—fee for 30 days is $75.00, or a 90-day permit is $150.00. Please come to Village Office to fill in an application and obtain a permit. (Note: construction debris is not permitted to be picked up with regular garbag —therefore a dumpster must be obtained.
All dumpsters shall have reflectors and must be covered when not in use.
An Application is Not a Permit to Build
Any person or corporation who shall violate any of the provisions of our Village
Ordinances or fails to comply therewith shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine.
Before starting any work, please call the Village Office for information and come into the Village Office to apply for a permit

The Village has a Local Law regulating Garage Sales, Tag Sales, etc. To conduct such a sale, you must file for a permit with the Village Clerk at least ten (10) days prior to the first day of sale. Further information can be obtained from the Village Hall.

Power Equipment
You cannot operate any power equipment, manual equipment or perform any construction earlier than 8:00 AM on weekdays and earlier than 9:00 AM on Saturday or later than 6:00 PM on any day
OR
Operate any power equipment, manual equipment or perform any construction on weekends, from the Friday before Memorial Day to the Tuesday following Labor Day, including Memorial Day, July 4th , Labor Day, and all legal holidays throughout the year.
